Archive for February, 2011

Cardio, cardio, cardio!

Cardio! I think I’ve typed it out so many times at this point that it looks like I spelled it wrong.

This has been my focus for the past couple weeks as far as areas I need to improve on. Strength training is awesome, but it can only help so much. A balance of both is something I’ve really been working on, and succeeding fairly well if I do say so myself. I’ve gotten up to doing a walking/jogging interval 4 times a week now, and working towards getting it to 5. Granted, I’m weird and start my week on Wednesdays, but it works out. 🙂

I’ve found that running outside is so much more satisfying than slugging along on a treadmill. I have stuff to look at, my own pace to set, and fresh air. When you’re locked up indoors all the time like I have been for several years, you really forget how awesome just going outside is. Everything in my life is surrounded with technology, which I love, but for quite a while there I was letting it consume me. I feel like I’m finally breaking free, though don’t ever tell me I have to give up my smartphone!

In other non-exercise related news, it’s February! The best month in the year! 😀 Lots of friends/family birthdays, including mine! I’m going to be 25 in barely over a week :x. I also got my next tattoo started, another Amy Brown fairy (http://www.amybrownart.com/). My awesome tattoo artist Joey Ortega is one of the most interesting and polite people I’ve had the pleasure of ‘working’ on something with. We can ignore the fact that he’s doing all the work and I’m just sitting there feeling pain from needles. 😉 Pictures of the finished product will be posted! ^_^

Hope you all are doing well, and have an awesome month!

Mid-year Goal

I’ve been watching a -lot- of The Biggest Loser lately. Whether you like the show or not (I know not everyone does, I’m not usually a reality TV fan), it’s hard to argue with a lot of the programs they use and support. One of these is the Pound for Pound challenge, which works to fight hunger in the US.

Today, I pledged 40 lbs with the intention of losing that by May 31, 2011. I picked that day because it was the sign-up deadline on the website, and I couldn’t find an official ‘deadline’. It seems kind of like an honor system, though I suppose I should join a ‘team’. Though, I’m also considering starting a ‘team’ with coworkers, if any of you reading this are interested.

As far as work goes, I’m now officially trained and probably as comfortable as I’m going to get for a while with taking phone calls. It’s still kinda scary for me, but I think I’ve been doing a pretty good job, and possibly made a couple more friends in the training class. 🙂 Thank you guys for the encouragement and compliments, and I’m sorry for being kind of crabby this week!

Last week I started using the C25k app on my iPhone, in conjunction with Pandora to help me improve my ability to jog/run, and to start prepping me for entering that eventual half-marathon. 😉 I’m considering signing up for a 5k I found happening in April, but I want to be more comfortable with what I can do first. I found from using this app though, that running outside feels a lot better than it does on a treadmill. I wish I had started doing it sooner.

For more randomness, it’s about time to dye my hair again. What color should I do? ANY color is up for grabs (hopefully). Right now it’s becoming a faded mesh of blue/green/pink/brown. Let me know what you think!
